life in song: a program for teens, adults, or all-ages
Songs to listen to & participate in, the stories and process behind them, and beginning to write a new song together.
Grounded in a belief that everyone can share life's stories through the arts, Life in Song explores both songwriting process and the wider creative process. This interactive event offers insights about how songs are formed, a chance for participants to engage in the process, and inspiration to tell their own stories- through song or any form of creative expression that they choose.
What to expect in this 90 minute program:
- Original "life soundtrack” songs
- The stories that sparked the songs and the process of creating them
- Songs to participate in: sing-along style and “change the lyric” frames
- Applying what we learn about songwriting to co-create a song together on the spot, which may become part of the Friend Andrea Collab project, where co-created songs are sometimes recorded and shared later in live performances or recordings :)
- Time for discussion or questions
This welcoming, inclusive program is a great fit for community spaces and can be a stand-along session or a series. It is also adaptable and works well with all-ages groups from kids to adults.
An example of a co-written group song: “Reciprocity”
“Life soundtrack” coversa a range of styles and moods. Here's a playful song that's about building community in unexpected places like a traffic jam. :)
Here's a reflective song about processing mistakes and finding a way forward (and how “mistakes” in art can lead to richer creations)
