Songs from silence: a quaker journey of songwriting and creative process
A musical offering rooted in Quaker silence and values that builds community and explores the creative process and our creative leadings.
It took years of silence, questioning, and quiet trusting for Friend Andrea to fully step into her musical call: to build community through music, inspire others to use their creative gifts, and offer musical messages that help us more fully live a life of Love in action. It was during a trip to Holguín Cuba- Dover Friends' sister meeting- that she received the “inner green light” that she could no longer ignore.
Here are the basics of this 1 ½- 2 hour offering:
- Grounding silence before sharing
- Songs that have arisen from this silence plus the stories and process behind them
- Songs to participate in: sing-along style and “change the lyric” frames
- Applying songwriting techniques to co-create a song together on the spot
- Spacious discussion in the style of worship-sharing
Rooted in Quaker values and practice, this experiential program is offered within Quaker communities and is also welcoming to other spiritual or reflective communities.
Songs from 2/22/26 program at Portland Friends Meeting (Maine):
Portland Friends! The first song I'm currently calling “Grace” but it's open to feedback on title, lyrics, structure, etc. I'd love to keep collaborating with you on this song:)
The second song is the one that I felt called to share during Meeting for Worship.
With love, Andrea
